Summit School

Summit School stands on a 28-acre campus and annually enrolls approximately 112 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. Purple Cherry Architects provided full architectural services including code and zoning research, preparation of existing conditions and demolition plans, and development of construction documents for the purposes of permitting and construction. PCA also prepared and submitted the permit application for submission to Anne Arundel County. The scope of work included interior renovations to the existing classroom barn building. The square footage of the 2,291 second floor remained the same but the occupancy for the building was increased with the reconfiguration of the space. Four to six existing small classrooms were demolished to create two large classrooms with an operable partition wall in the center to allow for the creation of one large multipurpose room. Two administrative offices also were provided on the second floor. We were able to re-use portions of the existing HVAC supply ducts as returns and provided new supply ducts in the raised ceiling. We modified the existing roof structure, insulation and fire protection to comply with new building codes. Purple Cherry Architects coordinated the efforts and work of the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing and Structural Consultants. Construction Administration services included General Contractor coordination as well as coordination of the mechanical subcontractor. The project is scheduled for completion early November 2008. is a national network of free, open-enrollment, college-preparatory public charter schools in under-resourced communities throughout the United States.
