Because we sponsor incoming Naval Academy midshipmen every year, it was important that the design of our new home provide respite for the midshipmen even when my wife and I weren’t available to be there for them. Cathy brought our ideas to life with a design that vertically sectioned the house into community and private areas, while providing a welcoming, home-away-from-home feel. Cathy’s vision was instrumental in fulfilling our mission to support these young men and women who dedicate themselves to service for our country.

Private Waterfront Residence on the West River

This striking 6,500 SF waterfront home was designed to reflect the old fashioned multi-level, early twentieth century southern farm home. The owner's ambition was to create a home with great warmth and a welcoming feeling of having been in the landscape for many years. Located on the West River in Harwood, Maryland, the home commands 180-degrees of water view providing magnificent scenes of the wildlife along the river. Part of the “Sponsor Parents Program” at the U.S. Naval Academy, the owners desired to be able to vertically section off the house so that visiting midshipmen could use a portion of the house even in their absence. Large screened and open porches wrap around the house at two levels. An attached garage is tucked on the backside of the house. The entire home features dark stained wide plank wood floors and warm yellow walls with painted paneling, all completing the owner’s desire for a new “old” home.
