BIO | CATHY CHERRY, AIA, LEED AP
Cathy Purple Cherry opened her firm, Purple Cherry Architects, in 1995. She has spent the last 20 years providing commercial and residential design services with a dedication to the enhancement of daily life and community through architecture.
Cathy's passion is focused on Purposeful Architecture - designing spaces that foster thoughtful learning and peaceful living environments for children and adults with special needs. Cathy has presented nationally on the topics of environmental design and the impact architecture has on individuals with special needs in spaces to include educational, institutional and residential. Her articles have been published in a variety of magazines including School Planning & Management, Autism File, Autism Advocate, Autism Digest and Parenting Special Needs.
In addition to serving on the Board of Directors for The Summit School, Opportunity Builders, Inc. and The Cisco Center, she has recently been appointed to the Echoing Hope Ranch Oversight/Advisory Board for a new residential ranch in Arizona for individuals with autism. Cathy served as the President of Maryland AIA in 2005.
Cathy received the Top 100 Minority Business Enterprise in the Mid Atlantic Region Award in 2009.
